James Harmon is a distinguished glass artist and professor with three decades of experience in glass art, is the Banana Factory’s Resident Glass Artist / Creative Director of GlassWorks at the Banana Factory. He is in charge of establishing programs, teaching many of the classes and developing and monitoring the protocols for the safe and efficient operation of the studio. Harmon’s background in glass art and design is highlighted by numerous awards and prestigious positions within the world of art glass. After beginning his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design, he was awarded a position as a teaching assistant in the school’s glass program. |

Harmon’s career then took off and his work earned him countless awards, including the Young Americans: Clay/Glass Award from the American Craft Council, the NEA Master Craftsmen Award and two fellowships from the Creative Glass Center of America. Harmon, who worked for several years with prominent glass artist Dale Chihuly, has also taught at such prestigious institutions as Gerrit Rietveld Academie, New York University, Parsons School of Design, Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School, Rhode Island School of Design, THE STUDIO of the Corning Museum of Glass, The University of Hawaii, The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center. In addition, he was instrumental in the design, construction and opening of the New York Experimental Glass Workshop, a 17,000-square-foot facility in Brooklyn, N.Y. that’s now known as UrbanGlass. |
