Scott Atiyeh

Scott Atiyeh is an Allentown-based ceramic artist who works figuratively. His life-sized works are influenced by his exploration into Eastern philosophy and a sense of play. He received a bachelor of fine arts degree in ceramics from Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia, and a master of fine arts degree in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has also studied at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, China. During his stay in China, Atiyeh studied Buddhism, whose principles now permeate his work.

Atiyeh had several exhibitions at the Icon Factory in Sacramento, Calif. and the Diego Rivera Gallery in San Francisco. His work may also be seen in the independent claymation film “Thunder and Lightning.”

“Each piece I make I give it all I can. I want everything to look like it's alive, like it has spirit. I am always looking for interesting things -- real things. If I'm studying a religion, for example, I look to see what the extreme is doing, where the real passion is. Then, I try to carry elements of that passion over into my work. My ultimate goal is to remain entirely devoted to my work, which will allow others to see what endless possibilities art and the freedom of expression have to offer.”
