Valerie Breaux Haaf

Inspired by nature and ancient tribal cultures, Valerie Breaux Haaf works in series with mixed media. This includes painting, collage, printmaking, handmade paper and textiles and found objects. Most recently, she has been working with copper tubing and wire, adding another dimension to her wall hangings, flags, masks and sculptures.

A Banana Factory studio artist since 1998, Valerie works and teaches mixed media and sculpture in two of the art center’s educational programs, B-Smart and Holy Infancy. She studied painting at Philadelphia College of Art, now University of the Arts, and Kutztown University, receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting. She also participated in performance art at the Fringe Festival during the Edinburgh International Festival of the Arts, while studying in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Valerie has shown in many regional shows in the past 20 years and has received merit and purchase awards. She was an artist-in-residence in May 2005 in Bethlehem’s Sister City, Schwaebisch Gmeund, Germany, where she had a solo exhibition and taught mixed media in the local schools.
