Adriano Farinella’s work is centered on the art of memory. Rather than capturing a specific moment at a specific time and place, it is the remembered feeling of a time that becomes more prominent than the actual place itself.
Adriano approaches painting landscapes as a spiritual practice, making his work resonate with more than just the physical effects of light on land and sky. His clouds, which figure prominently in his work, become figures painted at a time in their lives – they are born, live, change frequently and then leave. The images are at once the beginning and the end of things.
Adriano graduated from Kutztown University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting, drawing and art history. He also earned minors in philosophy and music theory and studied plein air painting in Italy.
Adriano’s work is currently represented by the Giacobbe-Fritz Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M., and featured in numerous collections throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and New Mexico.
In addition to painting, Adriano teaches drawing and figure drawing courses and workshops. He is also a certified massage therapist and bodyworker with his own practice in Easton.
“What I love about the Banana Factory is that it affords me the opportunity to connect with so many people and have them connect to my work. The highest honor for me is when people come to my studio on First Friday and say that they pay more attention to the sky as a result of seeing my paintings.”
