Andrew Kish originally began studying graphic design at Kutztown University. However, he longed to create more hands-on art, as he quickly realized the limitations graphic design placed on his creativity.
Andrew left the university and began working in sales. He also started reading and learning from “how-to” books on painting, and he diligently painted nearly every night after work.
Unable to ignore his natural talent and his even more natural passion for
the craft, Andrew enrolled once more at Kutztown and earned his Bachelor
of Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in painting.
Working in contemporary realism, Andrew strives to reveal in his paintings the magic of everyday life that we may sometimes overlook. He pays close attention to the details of his subjects, searching for their most unique characteristics. Using watercolor and oil paints, he creates vivid and detailed paintings of subject matter ranging from landscapes to figurative works.
Andrew has been featured in many juried and invitational exhibitions including a solo show at the Student Union Art Gallery at Kutztown University; the Emerging Visions Exhibition at Yorkarts in York, where he was awarded Best In Show; and the 106th Annual Philadelphia Watercolor Society “Works On Paper” Exhibition at the Banana Factory, where he was awarded the Newman Galleries Award of Excellence in Watercolor.
Andrew’s artwork can be found in many collections including those of Rodale
Press Inc. in Emmaus; the Stach Hotel in Slupsk, Poland; and the City Hall
in Vinci, Italy. His talents have also been commissioned for public works
of art by Sovereign Bank in Reading and Allentown Central Catholic High
School in Allentown.
“The Banana Factory is a great environment for artists to grow. It provides an opportunity to challenge yourself, to see what other people are doing and to stay in touch with the art community. It’s also an awesome community center—not just a visual arts center. It has art, theater, dance, and that all adds to creativity, which makes you feel more energetic about your art.”
