Rick Holt

Richard Holt has always had a flair for taking pictures, winning his first local photography contest at age 11 for his picture of a stray cat. Since that day many years ago, he has gone on to develop an amazing portfolio while photographing magnificent wildlife and brilliant landscapes around the world, from the windswept plains of Africa to the rugged mountains of Patagonia.

“My favorite location is the next place I go,” Rick says. “Half of the experience is seeing something new.”

In recent years, Rick has dedicated much of his time to instructing students in Adobe Photoshop and digital photography, both at the Banana Factory and at other locations throughout the United States. He enjoys teaching and finds the success of his students to be more rewarding than his own.

Rick’s Digital Darkroom Workshops, which he founded in 2003, have afforded him the opportunity to not only assist others, but also to work with many esteemed photography experts, including world-renowned nature photographer Art Wolfe. The two teach side by side at the Art Wolfe Digital Photography Center in Seattle, with Rick covering the technical side of photography while Art addresses the creative and aesthetic elements.

Artist Statement

“For me, the Banana Factory is all about the diversity of the artists, looking at other people’s work—that in itself is inspiring.”
