Sculptor Virginia Abbott, a graduate of York Academy of Arts, has been recognized by her peers in the National Sculpture Society as an elected member. She has earned numerous honors for her work, including the NSS’s youth award, Gloria Medal and Ben Franklin Award, as well as the prestigious Malvina Hoffman bronze horses head award from the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City.
Virginia has been commissioned to create both large and small-scale bronze sculptures. Her work is found at the state capital building in Atlanta, Doylestown Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital and other locations. A green artist, she has perfected working with cast paper to resemble bronze sculpture.
Virginia has taught sculpture at Northampton Community College and is currently offering sculpting classes at the Banana Factory.
“When people see my work, I hope they enjoy or are moved by the subject matter.
But just as important is that they begin to realize how surprisingly intricate
and beautiful yet sturdy sculpture made from recycled materials can be.
I create cast paper sculpture entirely from post-consumer pulp which is
pressed into molds made from my original art. It’s my small way of keeping
the Earth green by producing green art.”
