Call for Entries: Mural Proposals for the SouthSide Arts District Mural Arts Project: A Temporary, Parachute Cloth Mural Showcase along the South Side Greenway
A Public Art Project funded by the Lehigh Valley Arts Council and a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Stream Grant
Administered by ArtsQuest, the SouthSide Arts District and Lehigh University
Deadline: March 18
A collaborative effort led by ArtsQuest, the SouthSide Arts District, and Lehigh University, seeks proposals from local artists to design parachute cloth murals for temporary display along the South Side Greenway and permanent installation on buildings in Bethlehem, PA. This effort is meant to build on public art initiatives throughout the SouthSide, and help reinforce the burgeoning SouthSide Arts District. Selected artists will work with community-based partners and stakeholders to refine their designs and will create the work as part of the SouthSide Arts & Music Festival in April.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Compendium: (Land)scapes
Following the inaugural Compendium exhibition in 2017, ArtsQuest and the Banana Factory Arts Centers follows up in 2018 with Compendium: Landscapes. The exhibit will be juried by the Visual Arts Team at the Banana Factory: Stacie Brennan, Hillary Harper, and Nicole Gencarelli, as well as the Gallery Committee, made up of Ricardo Viera, Jeffrey Ludwig-Dicus, Nicki Stager, David Sestak and Ian Summers.

Lehigh Valley Art Wars Throw Down
Round One: February 2nd, 7PM – Banana Factory Arts Center
Round Two: February 17th, 7PM – SteelStacks
Art Wars are live events, held in different cities throughout the United States. The goal is to provide an entertainment experience by getting the artist out of the studio and sharing their creative workflow with an audience.
Sixteen Art Warriors are chosen by public voting at an open-call “Throw Down”. Art Wars is a round robin type of tournament where four artists compete at each battle. Two artists from each one move on to the next round. The sixteen artists are narrowed down to eight, to four, and eventually to one winner.
At each battle the artists have two hours to create their piece of work based on a theme provided just before the countdown begins. The artwork is then voted on by the audience and a secret jury. A voting ticket is $5, and half of the ticket sales at each event are split between the four artists competing, the remainder funds the grand prize of at least $1000.
