This class explores all of the techniques necessary to build ceramic forms without the use of a potter’s wheel. Timeless techniques such as coiling, slab-building, and press-molding will be used to create personal projects ranging from classic vessel forms to more complex sculptural works. This class will also cover basic surface design. Using a range of materials such as slips, underglazes, and glazes, students will learn how to develop unique surfaces based on their personal aesthetics. More experienced students will have the opportunity to experiment with mixed media projects that include non-ceramic materials such as paint, fibers, and glass. There will be weekly demonstrations for those interested in learning new techniques and individual instruction based on each student’s project. All materials are included. This class is for students aged 18 years or older.

Devyn Leonor Briggs studied fine art at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), a nationally ranked art college in Baltimore, MD.
