1-Day Workshop

Tuesday, October 24 | 7-8:30pm

Photography and Art: How do these words relate? Photographic art has given us some of the most memorable images that can take us back to our childhood or lead us into the cosmos. Join us for a presentation and discussion with Photo Historian Chris Karfakis as he explains how these two distinct forms of man’s expression came together in the 20th century.

Chris Karfakis is a member of The Photographic Historical Society based in Rochester, NY. He has been a proud and valued member of the Daguerreian Society since 1994. Over the course of his life, Chris has amassed a remarkable collection of cameras and images that have enabled him to further study and understand the history of photography. Chris can speak at length regarding the turning points in world events and how they have been documented by photography. His lectures are focused on the antebellum period, the American Civil War, and the turn of the 20th century. He is an expert on how photography was “invented” and he relishes the opportunity to reach and inform audiences on how photography impacts daily life in Western culture.
