Banana Factory studio artist since 1998, Valerie studied painting at Philadelphia College of Art (University of the Arts), and then received a BFA in Painting from Kutztown University. She also studied in Scotland where she participated in performance art at the Fringe Festival during the Edinburgh International Festival of the Arts. In 2005, Valerie was accepted for a residency in Schwäbisch-Gmünd, Germany, where she had a solo show and taught mixed media in the local schools. Valerie has shown in many regional exhibitions and has earned merit and purchase awards. She teaches mixed media, sculpture, and jewelry to at-risk children in the B-Smart (after school) program, Holy Infancy Art Program, Summer Camps, and adult tuition classes and workshops all at the Banana Factory.


Artist statement
My work is inspired by materials such as metals, stones, and various found objects. I am challenged by Nature and it’s never ending diversity as a subject matter. I continue to explore the techniques and methods I love which are mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, and printmaking.
