1 Day Workshop
Tuesday, July 12 | 6-9 p.m.
Introductory level block printing workshop in which students design, carve, and print a rubber stamp. Designs will be sketched on paper first, transferred to a 4" X 6" block, carved by hand and printed with archival ink on printmaking paper. Printed stamps can be tiled to create a repeat pattern or, time allowing, an additional stamp or stamp(s) can be carved with excess block material to create a variety of printed images.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Kayla Gibbons received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale School of Art in 2013 and BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2011. She is the 2014 recipient of the Connecticut Artist Fellowship Grant offered through the Connecticut Office of the Arts. Kayla has been an artist in residence at the Byrdcliffe Colony in Woodstock, New York and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. Her work has been exhibited in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and internationally in Rome, Poland, and Turkey. An extension of her artistic practice, Kayla delivers an art history seminar at the School of Visual Arts entitled Monument/Memorial: Sculpture & The American Landscape. Kayla works between Queens, New York and Bangor, Pennsylvania.
