12 Weeks

Tuesdays, October 29-February 4 | 6:30-9:30 p.m. (*No class 11/26, 12/24, & 12/31)

Learn how to make a 3D sculpted portrait using modeling clay and armatures. Students will learn about anatomical structure, logic, and incremental subtle variations to find the likeness of their subject. Individual expressions are incorporated into the finished work. This twelve week class is an in depth study of sculptural portraits, and students will leave with a mold they can use to create multiple cast-paper copies. All materials are included in this class.

Virginia Abbott is a long-standing Banana Factory Resident Artist, and is an elected member of the National Sculpture Society. Virginia has had artwork commissioned by the Princeton University, Doylestown Hospital, DaVinci Science Center, Lehigh Valley Health Network, and St. Thomas Moore Church in Allentown. “I create cast paper sculpture entirely from post consumer pulp which is pressed into molds made from my original art. It's my small way of keeping the earth green by producing green art. Who knows, if more of us thought about ways of turning garbage into gold, waste into wonder, trash into treasure, it might not be such a bad thing. Mother Nature would certainly approve.” – Virginia Abbott
