10 Weeks

Saturdays, September 25-December 11 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. *(NO CLASS 10/23 and 11/27)

In this project oriented class, students learn basic use of hand tools, sawing, filing, texturing, soldering, cabochon stone setting, tube setting, finishing and polishing. Use of the flex shaft and tool making is included. Students leave this class with an understanding of basic goldsmithing, as well as creating jewelry with beautiful stone settings. Potential Projects: sterling silver ring bands, plain and textured rings with bezel stone settings, rings with tube settings, stacked rings. Materials: Materials are purchased directly (at market cost) from instructor. Materials list provided first day of class. This class is for students aged 18 or older.

Kevin Herbst Haaf is a Goldsmith with more than 40 years experience designing and creating precious metal jewelry. Kevin studied Graphic Design, Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Kutztown University. He then worked for more than 5 years designing custom jewelry for Cinrus Creations, a jewelry company in Allentown, Pa. Kevin teaches hand wrought jewelry at Banana Factory where he is a Resident Studio Artist, and also teaches privately out of his home studio. His commissioned works are in many private collections.
