Teen Intensives

Teen Studio Intensives for Ages 13-18 years

Studio Intensives are designed with teens and pre-teens in mind. These courses offer older campers (ages 10-18) the opportunity to explore new mediums in-depth. Each week, professional Teaching Artists will guide pre-teens and teens to explore and build foundational skills in a variety of artistic mediums.

Young artists of all skill levels are welcome to join this fun, exciting and hot summer camp. Participants who are grouped together by experience level will transform molten glass into objects such as solid paperweights and blown items like drinking glasses. Every student receives one-on-one attention while handling molten glass.

Transform a ball of clay into a variety of beautiful objects as you learn the techniques of the pottery wheel. In this intensive, students are mesmerized by the spinning wheel and the feel of wet clay between their fingers. Students will be given several dates outside of camp to glaze artwork.

In this fun and engaging class, students will take their illustration skills to the next level using an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. They’ll explore challenging projects and their own personal style as they jump from creating art on paper to the screen. With the versatile and intuitive drawing app called Procreate, the possibilities are endless — students will utilize brushes that mimic artist tools, layered documents, custom color palettes, and countless features to enhance their digital designs!

Beach beadin’!  Create your own unique beach style jewelry in this week long camp.  Working with wires, beads, and crystals we will design and build wearable and decorative art inspired a trip to the shore.  Catch some rays in a crystal suncatcher, ride a wave with wire and beads in a wave bracelet, and carry your sunshine with a sun burst pendant.

Using hand-drawn simple illustrations created with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, this engaging class will introduce students to applying animation techniques to make their drawings come alive! Starting from the beginning, we’ll complete short, fun animation challenges — it’s a time for play, experimentation, and learning how drawn frames can interact within the programs. Though animation can be very complex, we’ll break down challenging concepts and show how to specifically animate portions of artwork to get a dynamic and amazing result!

Designed especially for the tree hugger and flower child, this relaxed painting and drawing session will open up students’ creativity to the natural world around them. We’ll explore foraged botanicals by extracting flower pigments and dyes, as well as illustrating them expressively with inked lines and paint. We’ll look up to the sky as our inspiration for some bold painted compositions, as well as focusing on the smaller textures and tiny details of leaves and bugs for nature sketches. The entire week will celebrate the outdoors with art, using Mother Nature as our muse!

Hand building is a fun way to learn the basics of working with clay and make some amazing functional clay creations! Students will learn coil, slab, pinch and other hand building techniques and work with sculptural and functional hand building projects.

Students will explore typography and hand drawn lettering, discussing both contemporary and historical styles and tapping into their own personal expression. They will practice with worksheets and materials to explore serif, sans serif, and other creative letterforms, including sampling basic calligraphy and illustrative hand lettering. With projects such as vintage sign painting, bold statement drop caps, and embellished script quotes, the students will discover how vast the world of lettering is and see letters in a whole new way!
