Kristi Morris
"These photographs represent my ties to the world around me. Photography is a meditation for me, a way to immerse
myself into the present moment and to reconnect. My work explores rural and urban landscapes including the
relationship between nature, manmade objects and the effects of time. I am driven to create images that evoke a
personal connection to the scene or some sense of nostalgia."
As a Lehigh Valley photographer, Kristi is inspired by the local region. Vintage camera in hand, she sees the beauty in ordinary things. Ancient trees, icy streams, windswept fields or historic structures serve as descriptions of the visible world, yet her work documents a relationship beyond the world of appearances . Located outside a recognizable record of time or place, Kristi’s layered images, double exposures, and atmospheric anomalies are documents of nuanced contemplative moments. Moments when photographer and subject matter merge with wind, weather, recollection, and nostalgia to create emotionally evocative records. FOSSIL SERIES- All carved wood and acrylic Excavated treasure, biological reliefs of plants, insects, and animals. Replaced by minerals over millennia. Records of the past, respect of the ancient, stories of extinction, and awareness of the life cycle. A sense of beauty and collectability, energy, and memory - eternal knowledge and afterlife preserved, with a warning of future extermination.
TERRA SERIES- All carved wooden panels, torched, with encaustic wax, plaster, acrylic, and iron oxide. Aerial views above the planet. Fictional land masses become islands. Sculpted by flooded water. Threatened by erosion and superstorms, in rapid climate change.
Michael Palladino is a mixed media artist from New York City, USA. He has extensively experimented with various media including printmaking, sculpture, photography, and woodworking. The result focuses on enhanced digital photography encased in encaustic wax, and carved wooden reliefs often charred with encaustic wax inlay. With his studio on the Delaware River, his work leans toward abstraction, is inspired by nature, with a concern for the environment.
