5 Weeks

Wednesdays, May 1-29 | 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Gouache (pronounced "Gwash") is an opaque watercolor, versatile and easy to use. Beginners are welcome, no experience needed. Each week, students will complete a small painting. The first two weeks will be focused on doing transcriptions of master paintings, with a focus on understanding composition. The following weeks will be paintings of narrative scenes, using images we have gathered form our daily lives. We will use photos, memory, and imagination to create our paintings. Although I will explain many of the traditional rules of painting, my teaching method values experimentation, intuition, and playfulness over perfectionism. We will learn from our mistakes, encounter "happy accidents," and have fun!

Lauren Kindle is an artist who lives and works in Easton, PA. She was the recipient of the 2017 Artist of the Year Award from the Arts Community of Easton. That same year, she was awarded a partial scholarship to an artist residency with the Jerusalem Studio School in Civita, which gave her the opportunity to paint for two weeks in Italy. She earned her BA in Art and Classics from Hampshire College in 2003. In addition to painting, Kindle is involved in her local arts community. For the past six years, she has managed a weekly figure drawing session at Lafayette College, which is open to local artists. Kindle works primarily with oil paints, but also enjoys other mediums, especially gouache.
