5 Weeks

Mondays, July 15-August 12 | 6-9 p.m.

This course is a community-oriented workshop designed to provide a space for writers of varying skill levels to share their work and engage meaningfully with one another to provide and receive in-depth feedback, critique, and encouragement. It will consist of weekly group meetings in-person at the Banana Factory, weekly writing assignments, and (brief) weekly reflective reading exercises designed to expand the participants’ experience of and familiarity with a wide range of contemporary poetic styles and voices. The primary objective of this course is to create a welcoming environment where creators can be affirmed and challenged in the work of making and finding meaning, and can develop friendships over a shared love for the power and beauty of language.

Past workshops have been laid-back, including participants with varying levels of familiarity and comfort with poetry. So whether you've been writing poetry for decades or are just dipping your toes into the world of verse, if you feel ready to commit to five weeks of dedicated engagement with other writers regarding your work and theirs, this workshop could be for you!

NOTE: If you've been a participant in one of Bryana's previous workshops, either online or in-person, you're certainly welcome to attend this one and will have an entirely new experience as past assigned readings will not be repeated.

Bryana's poetry has appeared in over 50 literary journals including Beloit Poetry Journal, Poetry Northwest, and Chestnut Review. She was the recipient of Iron Horse Literary Review's 2022 National Poetry Month Award, and her book "Summer of the Oystercatchers" is forthcoming with Fernwood Press. Since 2021 she has been teaching online and in-person poetry workshops to foster meaningful arts community & support writers. You can see examples of her published work here:, and find her on Instagram & Threads at @_bryana_joy.
