One Day Workshop

Sunday, March 5 | 1-4:30pm

This spring door decoration introduces the student to the techniques used in creating a wall basket. Students will learn start and stop weaving, attaching stakes to the handle and how to finish the top of basket. Students will be introduced to the basics of weaving, specifically methods of weaving a flat basket. There is no rim on this basket, so students will learn how to finish it off before decorating the basket. Students will have a choice of blue or red for accent colors. Level: Beginner, but all levels welcome! All weaving supplies will be provided. Students are asked to bring a measuring tape, pencil, 12 clip clothes pins, and an old towel to class.

Debbi has been basket weaving for over 25 years, and enjoys sharing her expertise with all levels of weavers who want to be challenged and enjoy creating a useful piece of art. Debbi has taught at the Hamburg Arts Alliance, Salem Evangelical Congregational Church, Northwestern Lehigh School District Community Education Program and now at the Banana Factory. She is also a competition winner, winning 14 ribbons over 5 years and Best of Show in 2013 at The Great Allentown Fair.

“My primary medium is reed-both flat and round, but I also weave with cane, ash, oak, waxed linen, fabrics and different types of reed. I enjoy making traditional types of baskets, but find it especially stimulating to make an unusual shape or incorporate a non-traditional item into the weave; such as wire, beads or buttons, philodendron leaf or deer antler.” Debbi continues striving to learn new types of weaving and to design new styles for herself and for her students.
