Discover Screen Printing

Screen Printing is an artistic process where layers of images are applied to a surface like paper or fabric using a screen and ink to create an amazing finished print. In this 6 week class, learn the basics of screen printing. Techniques including how to prepare your design or photograph, creating color separations to make layers, transferring designs on to screens, and how to mix inks and create interesting color combinations. Students will be able to print on paper and fabric such as t-shirts or other articles of clothing, and different types of printmaking paper will be discussed. At the end of the course, students are encouraged to swap prints to create their own art collection! A materials list will be provided to registered students.
Barbara Bjerring is currently a resident of Riegelsville Pa. but is originally from Philadelphia. She earned her BFA in Graphic Design from Moore College of Art and Design. She was accepted to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and graduated with a Post-Baccalaureate in 2008, where she focused on woodblock printmaking and fiber art. Barbara received her Master’s in Art Education with a minor in Studio Art focusing on fiber and ceramics from Temple University Tyler School of Art. Barbara has taught drawing, woodblock and silkscreen printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, painting and fiber art. Barbara’s curriculum is based in contemporary art, art history, materials and techniques, interdisciplinary study and writing skills in a student-centered pedagogy. She stressed to her students that knowledge is the best medium. Barbara’s studio practice is an important part of her life as a teacher. Besides developing the Deeply Flawed pottery and gift paper line, Barbara is studying Squeak Carnwath, Kiki Smith, Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama, Agnes Martin, Jo Baer, Oyvind Fahlstrom and quantum physics. She uses woodblock printmaking, ceramics and fiber art in an attempt to combine ideas about science, spirit and the mundane through iconography, medium application and text to uncover an invisible sentiment.
